  • A sentimental ring from 1898, modelled in solid 18ct gold. The front of the ring is simple in design, set with a single white pearl surrounded by a star of black enamel. The white pearl was often used to symbolise tears and purity, which the black of the enamel being typical of loss.

To the inside of the band, we discover who these great symbols were for with the hand etched inscription “In memory of Mother Jane Armstrong”. The phrasing suggests this could have been in mourning of a religious figure, however this is slightly ambiguous. All that we do know is Jane Armstrong was much loved and missed.

A true piece of history you can wear on your hand, this ring may be over 120 years old, but it is offered in pristine condition, ready for Jane Armstrong’s next caretaker.
