We will definitely mourn the loss of this ring when it sells. The head of the ring is a sought-after kite shape set with a central, old cut, cornflower blue sapphire, surrounded by eight cut diamonds.
Originally the sapphire was surrounded by a halo of seed pearls, but some of these were missing and in quite poor condition, and so we opted to swap the stones out for a halo of diamonds. We wanted to remain true to the age of the piece and opted for eight cut stones, which were commonly used in antique jewellery. The total carat weight is 0.22ct and the stones are G, SI.
However, this clearly isn’t the first re-model this ring has seen. The head of the ring is marked 15ct, whereas the shank of the ring is marked 9CT with an old makers mark, meaning that this ring is probably an old conversion and likely began life as a stick pin in the Victorian period. The back of the ring has some dark discolouration to the gold but this is superficial and expected with age.
We are just in love with the story this ring clearly has to tell, and how loved it has been throughout the centuries, a true example of how jewellery can be adapted to stand the test of time.
The head of the ring has good finger coverage at 15mm in length, the central sapphire measuring 4mm in diameter, and with a delicate 1.5mm shank.
The ring is a size M ½ (US 6.25) and can be sized.
Antique Cornflower Sapphire and Diamond Kite Ring
We offer a ring re-sizing service by our antique specialist for a small fee, starting at £40.
Most of our rings can be resized, but if they can’t we will stipulate this in the description.
As a rule we will only alter a ring by three UK sizes. If you would like to size a ring more than three UK sizes (either up or down) please contact us on a case by case basis and we will try and accommodate you as best as possible.
If you have any product altered or resized it can still be returned, however you will then be refunded the cost of the ring, minus alteration & postage costs.
