A glowing natural opal plaque ring in 9ct gold. Dating to c.1930-1950 the ring is in excellent overall condition. The opal measures an impressive 13mm x 11mm and is full of colour as you turn it on your hand, flashing every colour of the rainbow. The opal has some softening and scratches to the sides visible with a loupe but otherwise is in lovely antique condition.
The opal is held in a simple bezel setting that hugs the outline of the stone perfectly, finished with a timeless split shank design. Interestingly it appears the back of the ring has been filled with resin at some point, hiding the back of the opal from sight. We do not believe the opal is a composite stone but merely that this resin has been added to protect it from wear. Other than this the only wear to note is some tarnishing and darkening to the metal at the base of the bezel by the split shank.
