An original opal bezel necklace c.1900 set with approximately 4.50ct of opals in 9ct yellow gold. This beautiful necklace has all the marks of early Edwardian jewellery, with a feminine and delicate feel, but coupled with Victorian influence. Each is set in their own individual bezel and has a unique greenish-blue body colour, peppered with subtle red and orange play of colour as they turn in the light. Overall the stones are in excellent condition for their age, however there is some very superficial surface pitting to two of the stones, a common thing to see in antique opals, but this is microscopic and minimal. The only other wear to note is that two bezels have a split to their side, these don't compromise the durability or security of the setting and are not easily noticed, but have been reflected in the price.
Each cushion cut opal is joined to the next with two chains, one to the top and one to the bottom, which gives a delicate feel to this wearable piece. The necklace is completed with a finely engraved barrel clasp, indicative of the era the necklace was made. A stunning piece and perfect to wear casually or dress up.
