A fabulous antique mourning ring in solid 18ct gold. The head of the ring is set with a creamy half pearl, flanked by two brilliant cut diamonds. The diamonds are slightly cloudy in lustre and are suspected replacements as their cut isn’t innkeeping with the age of the overall piece; nevertheless they look right at home next to the organic centre stone.
The gemstones are surrounded by finely detailed black enamel with a contrasting white enamel boarder. The use of black and white enamel being traditionally used in mourning jewellery in the Victorian era and symbolises mourning and tears, amongst other things. The ring has possibly been re-enamelled recently with flecks of enamel being present inside the shank of the ring, although done well and restoring this fine piece to its full glory.
