A fine antique ring modelled in rich yellow gold. The exquisite piece feels luxurious on the hand with a hefty 6.4g weight and a smooth d-shaped shank. To the centre of the ring there is a large egg-shaped opal set east to west across the finger and held secure in a bespoke buttercup setting. We have often seen this style of setting for round stones, but never for a pear shaped stone, making this piece truly unique. The white opal is original to the piece and does have some surface wear to it, consistent with age, but this does little to detract from its beauty, which shows a subtle play of colour dancing across the cabochon when it is turned in the light.
 
The opal is framed by diamond studded shoulders, each diamond carefully accented by a hand etched star, giving the ring a truly celestial feel. Overall the ring is offered in excellent antique condition with only superficial wear noted.
