A sparkling antique ring c.1900. The centre of the ring holds a bright cornflower blue sapphire in a desirable antique cushion cut. The sapphire was heavily abraded when it first came to us but has been lovingly re-polished to bring out its lively blue tones. The re-polishing was done with the upmost care, following the original faceting pattern of the antique stone so none of its history has been lost.
Accenting the beautiful blue sapphire are two chunky French cut diamonds. The old mined cut stones fashioned so as to follow the natural growth pattern of the diamond, resulting in a squarish outline that we adore. The ring is finished with four further diamonds surrounding the sapphire, one thought to be a replacement.
The stones are all held in an ornate 18ct yellow gold setting, quintessential of the late Victorian to Edwardian period. Interestingly there are some holes to the shank which we can’t quite decide if they are a design feature or used to hold gemstones, and as such we have left the piece as originally found, but could possibly set more gemstones here if you so required.
