We are a sucker for a good cabochon at the SHJB, and when it is an antique emerald cabochon, we are definitely interested. This beautiful ring is c.1900 and set with a vibrant green, emerald cabochon to the centre, which seems to glow from within, as fine emeralds do. This exceptional stone is surrounded by a complimenting double halo of chunky old mined cut diamonds, which themselves total just shy of half a carat. The diamonds, and emerald, are in good condition with no chips or cracks and full of life, which is rare to see in a piece of this age, especially with an emerald which is a brittle stone and can be prone to wear.
The antiques stones have all be hand set into a plaque of 18ct white gold, which has a yellow gold, basket detailed, gallery beneath, that curves around your finger for comfort. There is some slight wear to one side of the setting, with some minimal metal loss, but this does not compromise the ring and is only visible with careful inspection with a loupe.
Overall a very special ring that would make the perfect addition to a jewellery collection, or an engagement ring.
