A gorgeous mourning ring dating from the late 1800's. Mourning rings became popular during the Victorian era with the death of Prince Albert, and were commissioned to remember those who were very dear to the wearer. This piece appears to have origionally been a brooch but has been converted to a ring with an antique band.
The exquisite swirl engravings along the shank complement the seed pearls and pink paste beautifully. The ring fits comfortably against the finger, with a coverage of 17mm. In Victorian jewellery, pearls are traditionally seen as symbols of tears, making them an appropriate choice for this special piece.
A truly sentimental piece that requires a new caretaker. Due to age, there are signs of wear on the metal on both sides and the back of the head. Please note this ring is not eligible for resizing.
