Quite possibly the best opal ring we have had the pleasure of selling. This fine crystalline opal totals an estimated 8ct in weight, with an impressive spread of 17.5mm. Thought to be of Ethiopian origin the opal has truly exceptional play of colour with big patches of rainbow colours dancing across the smooth domed surface of the stone.
 
The opal boasts typical Ethiopian inclusions of tiny pyrite crystals throughout the crystal structure, these look-like teeny tiny black dots floating in the stone and can in some examples be seen with the naked eye, this is not the case here, but they are visible with a macro lens or a loop. The natural opal is offered in excellent condition with only a few superficial scratches visible with magnification.
 
Modelled in 18ct white gold the back of the shank has been stamped with the tell-tale eagle’s head hallmark for France. The mount is simple but well made, with a timeless four claw setting securing the opal and rose cut diamond shoulders. The only wear to note are some nicks and chips to the diamonds visible with a loupe. This is a truly exceptional ring.
