A stunning French cut ruby and old cut diamond five stone ring. This ring may have modern hallmarks but we suspect that with the age and cuts of the stones that it is either an antique piece that has been re-hallmarked or re-made, needless to say no one would dispute that this was a true antique until you saw the 750 stamp.
The centre of this beautiful ring is a highly sought-after French cut synthetic ruby. French cut stones can be traced back to 14th century and came from the table cut diamond, they lost popularity in the 18th century only to be re-born in the early 1900s, particularly popular in French art deco pieces. Much like the cut, synthetic stones were also gaining popularity in the early 1900s, where it was hard to find that perfect rich colour of gemstone many were turning to lab grown gems that were coming into the market, that offered the perfect colour and clarity for a fraction of the price, much like the rise in the use of synthetic moissanites today. The combination of the cut and origin of this lively pinkish-red ruby leaves us with no doubt that it is a true 1900s gemstone. The ruby has some light surface wear consistent with this age, but this is only visible under magnification.
Whilst there is no doubt that the centre stone draws your eye in, it is perfectly complimented by four sparkling, transitional cut, diamonds. Totalling an approximate 0.21ct in total these antique stones are of excellent colour and clarity, bright and sparkly with no wear to note, as they have been perfectly protected by their bezel settings.
A truly striking and unusual piece you could easily wear stacked or alone.
