A beautiful antique locket c.1850 in solid 18ct gold. The large locket has been crafted throughout from yellow gold, the exception being the frames around the glass inside and the pin in the hinge.
The locket has been beautifully finished with a finely engraved paisley pattern that dances across the entire surface of the locket adding a unique texture to the gold. The front of the locket has a beautiful starburst pattern to it in polished gold that stands out against the wonderfully hand detailed background, set with a central pearl.
To the interior we find the original glass panels carefully held by base metal frames, which can be prised away carefully to remove the glass and insert your keepsakes.
The locket is finished with an 18ct gold split ring to the bale, which adds a stunning design detail, but can be removed easily and worn on other pieces if you so wished.
The only wear to note is a historic repair to the hinge of the locket, which has resulted in some discolouration to the metal; aside from this the locket is in exceptional condition and opens and closes securely with a nice click. This is a truly remarkable piece and would be the pride of any jewellery collection.
