A beautiful and unusual opal ring dating to the late 1800s. The centre stone is a creamy white opal with a subtle play of colour that dances across its domed surface. Held securely in a multi claw buttercup style setting, which was popular in the 1880s. The opal is framed by scrolled gold shoulders, intricately detailed with royal blue enamel and engraved detailing, meaning that the side profile of the ring is almost more beautiful than the table view. There is some very slight enamel loss consistent with age but other than this the ring is offered in excellent condition.
