A darling antique opal and diamond halo ring modelled in 18ct gold. Although indicative of the Edwardian era we have been able to date the ring more accurately from the remains of a sentimental inscription to the interior of the shank, which reads “R. J……1912”. Perhaps this was an engagement ring or promise ring between lovers, cherished for years by the wearer.
The head of the ring houses a good-sized natural opal with a dark greyish body colour. The natural stone has a few internal inclusions that look like cracks, but we can assure you are not and form part of the natural composition of the gemstone. However, the opal entirely makes up for this with its beautiful play of colour, which shows all the spectral colours of the rainbow as it turns in the light.
Surrounding the opal is a fine halo of rose cut diamonds set into a white gold setting, with two further bezel set diamonds to the shoulders. The antique diamonds are in good overall condition with only a few small nicks visible with magnification.
The ring is finished with fine engraving to the gallery and shoulders of the ring for some subtle art deco glamour. An exquisite piece throughout.
