An exquisite and unusual opal and diamond ring from c.1900-1940. This ring is truly one of a kind, set with a central opal of approximately 1.50ct and measuring an impressive 11mm in length. The opal is a natural stone, believed to be Ethiopian, however it has been dyed to give a deep purplish-blue body colour that looks almost akin to a sapphire before you see the play of colour dance across the gemstone surface. The opal is in excellent condition overall, however there are some light scratches to the surface of the stone and one small nibble to a kite facet, which are visible at certain angles when it is turned in the light.
Surrounding the opal is a chunky halo of rose cut diamonds. The diamonds are each set in their own bezel setting, which gives the boarder of the ring a delightful scalloped edge. Each diamond measures approximately 3.5mm in diameter, however there is no reliable formulae for calculating rose cut stones’ weight, so this remains unknown. The diamonds are bright and lively with a good white colour and no eye visible inclusions. Under magnification a few small chips can be see to some stones, but this does nothing to detract from the beauty of this special piece.
A true one of a kind ring that will sure to become the star of the show in your jewellery box.
