A beautiful early Victorian ring in solid 9ct rose gold. This pretty piece likely began life as a mourning ring with a hairwork panel covered with glass to the centre; however this was likely damaged and has instead been replaced with a vibrant, natural opal. The addition of the opal is simply perfect and does well to compliment the boarder of original pearls that encircle it. All stones are in good condition, despite evidence of the pearls being glued, which remains common practice.
The head of the ring is mounted onto a wide tapering shank that gives this special piece a chunky, but comfortable, feel. There is some evidence of a historical re-size to the reverse but this is not noticeable when worn and has been well done.
